The emphasis throughout the book of Hebrews is to present Jesus Christ as being better than any other good thing that God has given us. We need to guard against taking these good things and putting them in the place of the one who is better. This is the first of a three part series beginning with chapter 8 where we are reminded that God’s activity toward us in Christ has nothing to do with making us a better version of ourselves but His purpose through Jesus is all about making us new!
